Another Earth (2011) starring Brit Marling and directed by Mike Cahill PG-13

We sent away for this on Netflix and received it in the mail.  (None claims to have actually put this in our Que).  Joe, Hannah, Bekah and I watched this.

 

Synopsis

This movie begins with a tragic accident and then shows how the healing begins...life IS sometimes like this--two people, two worlds, collide by "fate" and they show how the learning develops in this "earth experience."  It is labeled as a sci-fi, dramatic comedy--FYI.  You are left with a lot to think about...What if...?

Healing Cancer: From Inside Out by Mike Anderson; Earth Now! [Cinema Libre Distribution Presents] (DVD)

This movie I reserved and checked out from our local library. The music underneath the sound track is a bit too rhythmic and throbbing, a bit distracting. The message is an important one, I believe. Dr. Gerson developed a diet (specifically eating raw, organic fruits and vegetables and little flesh protein) and found great results YEARS ago for helping the amazing body to heal itself. He had one article published in a major medical magazine in the United States and then was driven from the country (literally) by the FDA and Drug Administration because there was little to no money in for pharmaceuticals.

I would like to check this out again and share it with physicians in the family.

The Inheritance

The Inheritance by Louissa May Alcott. This fun film is one I have never heard of before. Edith, an Italian orphan, is brought to the US and raised as the "help" as a companion to a wealthy couples daughter. Intrigue, romance, true love, love at first sight, loyalty, are all brought about in the film. A little like Anne of Green Gables meets Twilight.

Letters to Father Jacob

This Finnish film, Letters to Father Jacob, (Postia pappi Jaakobille) was seen by me, Joe, and Rebekah. Joseph mentioned he was really touched by the film. It is about a murderess who is paroled after 15 years because she is pardoned. She has no place to go and so is turned over to an elderly priest, Father Jacob, to help him read and write back to letters he receives in the mail. She learns of Christ's forgiveness and also of the redeeming power of love.

Baz Luhrmann's dazzling and unconventional adaptation of...

Liked this film that is a medern day adaptation with Old English speech. Newsreporters remark on the feud between the Capulets and the Montagues and it is easier to understand and see this way. Enjoyed it!

A Good Woman (Lady Windermere's Fan)

I thoroughly enjoyed the movie, A Good Woman, movie adaptation of Oscar Wilde's play, Lady Windermere's Fan. Helen Hunt does a fantastic job as the "ruined woman" and scarlet Johansen does okay. It is filmed on the gorgeous Amalfi coast in Italy. I watched it again with Joe who seemed preoccupied with the implied adultery but I loved how he drives his moral lesson home "do not judge" and redemption, etc. come at the end. The characters are descriptively rich and true to their natures. Funny, witty, charming, etc. So many good quotes, like from the playboy bachelor to the married man drunk on their yacht after a big misunderstanding, "We are all lying in the gutter. Some of us are looking at the stars."

The War: What's worth fighting for?

This movie stars a young Elijah Wood (Lord of the Rings trilogy fame) and Kevin Costner. It is the summer of 1970 in Mississippi. Stu and Lidia Simmons, with the help of their frineds (white and black alike) have high hopes of building a tree house in an ancient tree. Their father, a recently returned Vietnam vet, has hope to rebuild his family and dreams also. In this short summer, their father teaches them many valuable lessons about who they are and not to be influenced by the circumstances around them. Costner's character shows mercy on another man and his family that has plagued them. In turn, Wood's character ends up saving the little brother from drowning. Christian examples displayed, quotable quotes worth learning.
